On the morning of October 19, an 80-year-old man was seriously injured indoors at Backen in Umeå, and an investigation into attempted murder was initiated. A 30-year-old man was arrested and detained but was released shortly thereafter and the suspicions against him were dismissed early in their entirety.

The investigation into attempted murder is now being closed.

– As is usual when there are suspicions of serious crimes, a large number of investigative measures are taken in an early stage and this has also been done in this case. The overall assessment of the measures taken is simply that it is not a crime. We feel confident in this assessment and I want to emphasize that the investigation is not being closed due to a lack of evidence, but rather that it is a matter that is not criminal, says Marcus Danielsson, head of the police department for serious crimes in Västerbotten.
