A car and a bus have collided on national road 26 at Hestra. Initial reports indicate that it is a serious accident. Both vehicles are in the ditch. Rescue and police are on their way.

Other road users are advised to exercise extreme caution and expect the road to be closed completely during the rescue operation.

18:28 National road 26 is closed in both directions. The car and bus have collided head-on. National road 26 is two-lane on the accident site without a central median.

18:46 Traffic will be diverted so that it passes through the community of Hestra.

18:53 There were a number of passengers on the bus, which is not a bus in regular service. These will be picked up by another bus. Police are working on the site, including conducting interviews and creating a list of passengers. A person who was traveling in the car is seriously injured. 

19:10 An investigation into reckless driving is being conducted to investigate the cause of the accident. No one is currently suspected. Both the bus and car will be seized for technical examination.

19:31 In addition to the seriously injured person in the car, a further four people have been taken to hospital by ambulance. 

19:34 There were 20-30 people in the bus from the same group, mainly young people in their 18-year-olds. Those who were not taken by ambulance have been taken to a collection point together.

19:45 The four people who were in the bus and taken by ambulance have been assessed as lightly injured.

21:20 The latest forecast is that the road will be closed until around 22:15. The bus will be towed.

21:49 The four from the bus who were taken to hospital are two women in their 18-year-olds, a man in his 18-year-old and a woman in her 50-year-old. All have injuries that are assessed as relatively mild.

22:16 The driver of the car, a man in his 25-year-old, has died from his injuries. Relatives have been notified.
