Västerbotten, elderly people exposed to fraud and attempted fraud.
Under the Saturday evening, the police handled two cases, in Umeå and Vännäs, where elderly people were called by individuals who claimed to be calling from the police, bank, and insurance company. The scammers have tried in different ways to persuade the elderly to reveal their bank account details.
The cases are classified as fraud and attempted fraud.
Since Friday, around 20 reports of fraud and attempted fraud have been filed with the police in Västerbotten. The methods used are often similar and common is that the people who call or contact via for example SMS want access to bank information and bank ID.
The police want to remind everyone of this again, to be vigilant. Never give out bank information to anyone who calls. If someone calls and asks for your information: hang up the phone. Then you can call the police and file a report.
