Enhanced police cooperation in the Tornedal region. Sweden and Finland exercise together in Luleå.
During the period 24-28 November, Finnish uniformed police personnel and Finnish police vehicles will be seen in Luleå city. This is due to the intensified police cooperation in the border area between Sweden and Finland.
The agreement on the cooperation means that Finnish police officers, respectively Swedish police officers, will be able to perform police duties on the other country's territory in two different types of situations:
Article 3- Urgent measures after the other country's request, in the case of serious crimes that pose a threat to an individual's life or health.
Article 4- Urgent measures without the other country's request, to avert immediate danger to an individual's life or health.
The agreement's full name is The Agreement of 19 October 2021 between the Kingdom of Sweden's government and the Republic of Finland's government on police cooperation in the border area.
