Summary of the effort "Svepet" in Berga.
I week, the police have carried out a comprehensive operation in the district of Berga in Linköping, which is called "Svepet."
This has included structured searches in public spaces, cellars, and properties, as well as terrain in a limited geographical area.
The method was created in Södertälje in the spring of 2020 as part of efforts to reduce the number of shootings and explosions. It is also a clear message from the police side that no areas are off-limits for criminals to operate in.
The police resource has consisted of, among other things, traffic police, neighborhood police, IGV (intervention activity), UAS (drones), special search dog handlers, and bomb group with dog handlers. Customs and the Enforcement Authority have also participated.
A number of seizures have been made, including narcotics, and there have also been arrests. However, these cases cannot be commented on further due to ongoing investigations.
One of the main goals of the operation is to create a sense of security, and therefore the police also communicated in advance that they would have resources in the area to avoid unnecessary alarm.
- During the operation, we had a large police presence in Berga, which in turn communicated with the public and answered questions and explained what we were doing there. Having so many police officers in one area gives us the opportunity to talk to citizens and be available for questions and concerns, which is important to us. My experience is that the response we have received has only been positive. We are satisfied with the operation and think we have achieved our goals. We have gained a clearer picture of the situation in Berga, says police operation chief Ida.
