Elderly man targeted for fraud.
An application for fraud has been filed after an elderly man in Söderhamn was targeted by telephone scammers. The scammers sent SMS to the man and claimed to be from a payment service. The SMS contained a phone number that allegedly belonged to the bank's security department. The man discovered after the call that there was a lot of money missing from the account.
There are currently many fraud cases. They can occur via phone or for example via SMS where the fraudster encourages you to call a number. The police are reporting cases where fraudsters claim you have ordered goods, taken out a loan, or even claim to help you and call from authorities such as the police.
It is very important never to call numbers that you are encouraged to call in SMS. If a company - or authority - claims to be looking for you, end the call and call the central organization, and ask if it is true that they are looking for you.
Talk to relatives and friends about this and thereby make it more difficult for fraudsters to succeed.
