The police want to warn the public in the Uppsala area that scammers targeting elderly people are now very active.

During the afternoon, an 80-year-old woman lost a large amount of gold jewelry after receiving a visit from the scammers.

The scam was preceded by her responding to an SMS from an unknown person.

We suspect that more people will be targeted by the scammers.

We urge the public to:

- Not to respond to SMS from unknown people who want you to call them.

- Never to share bank information or log in with bank-ID on a request from unknown people.

- Not to open the door for people you do not know if you do not know beforehand that they have a serious matter.

- Never to believe anyone outside who says they want to take care of your valuable items - authorities and banks never act like that.

- Always to contact the police on 112 if someone urges you to do the above.
