Wave of SMS scams targeting the elderly in Östersund.

In a short time, the police have set up ten reports of attempted fraud against elderly people in Östersund. The individuals have received an SMS from someone who claims to be from the credit company Brixo - where they are urged to call a number to confirm that they have applied for a credit card. 

If you are unsure about the information, contact the relevant company through their official contact channels. Do not call the specified number.

Tips to prevent fraud
Hang up if an unknown person calls.
Never give out a code or bank card to an unknown person.
Do not log in with BankID if an unknown person urges you to do so.
Do not click on any links in emails or SMS.
Do not call unknown numbers that you received via an SMS.

Report a crime
If you suspect that you have been a victim of telephone fraud, you should make a police report and contact your bank. You can make a police report by calling the police's contact center on the phone number 114 14, visiting a police station, or via our e-service.
