Police were alerted to a location in Arvika on the day in question following reports of a man seen carrying something that was perceived as a pistol.
People reacted and contacted the police, which made us quickly go to the scene.
During the check it turned out to be a young boy who had a toy pistol stuck in his waistband.
We want to take the opportunity to remind you that this is very inappropriate. Objects that look like real guns can easily be misinterpreted by people in the surroundings. It creates anxiety, leads to police resources being sent to the scene and can in the worst case have serious and unforeseen consequences.
For the person who sees the situation, it is not possible to determine if the gun is real or not – and then we as the police must always act as if it could be sharp.
Feel free to talk to children and young people about the risks of carrying around toy guns or objects that can be perceived as real guns in public environments.
We also want to thank you who contact us when you see something that seems to deviate. It helps us to be able to act quickly when it is really needed.
Thank you for your attention and help to contribute to a safer environment.
