The staircase has been smoke-filled and an outer door has minor damage. The police are working on the scene to gather witness statements and to search for the person or persons who caused the explosion.

A number of people have been checked so far and, among other things, a dog patrol is searching the surrounding area. An inventory of cameras is being conducted to see what is on the films/images from the event or people who may be suspected.

The national bomb squad and forensic technicians will investigate the staircase - in anticipation of this and to avoid destroying evidence, the staircase is cordoned off. Those at home in the staircase are informed that they should stay indoors in their apartments until the investigation is complete. 

The police continue to search for the suspect/suspects in the area and to interview witnesses.
