Group in distress on Kebnekaise, comprehensive rescue operation. Mountain rescue is initiated to assist the group.
Five people found themselves in a precarious situation on Tuesday evening at Kebnekaise. Contact with the police's command center was made at 21:26. Shortly thereafter, mountain rescuers were alerted to the location and a rescue operation was initiated. Due to difficult weather and terrain conditions in the area where the group was located, the mountain rescuers were unable to reach them until Wednesday morning at 07:20. Throughout Wednesday, mountain rescuers have been working to help the group down from the area around Kebnekaise's northern peak to Storglaciären east of the peak. From there, the group and mountain rescuers were picked up by Polisflyget to Tarfala Research Station, the rescue operation was completed at 19:50.
