The police are warning again about scams and attempts at scams in the Police Region of Mid Sweden.

Six women born around the 1930s were targeted by scammers and attempts at scams during the afternoon and evening in Uppsala and Knivsta.

The perpetrators were men who called and said they were from the police and wanted to help the women protect their jewelry from thieves.

They claimed that there had been a break-in in their residential area and offered a service to secure their jewelry and valuable items.

In two of the cases, they obtained jewelry of unknown value. In one of the cases, the scam is considered serious due to the perpetrator removing the woman's jewelry.

In four of the cases, the crimes stopped at attempts at scams due to the victims hanging up the phone as they thought the calls sounded suspicious. Those who hung up were not called again.

The police warn the elderly about calls from people who claim to be from the police and offer services.

No government agency, bank, or insurance company calls the elderly and offers services in the way the scammers do.

If you receive a call about various types of help or a request for a BankID connection from unknown people, the police advise you to hang up the call and talk to family or friends about what happened.

All types of scams or attempts at scams should be reported to the police. If the crime has already occurred, call 11414. If it is an ongoing crime, call 112.
