A person has been targeted by a scam. It started with a text message about an unknown meeting she would have tomorrow and ended with stolen jewelry.
Scams often begin with a text message, for example, 'you have a meeting with a caregiver tomorrow' or 'tomorrow we will come to you and change the locks' or some other statement that the scammer hopes the person will react to. There is often a phone number in the text message that the scammer hopes the victim will call.
When the victim calls the number in the text message, they are deceived by different stories. In many cases, very believable ones. It can be about getting to talk to someone who pretends to be a police officer, bank, or something similar. Often, they are then asked to come home and look at, weigh, or check jewelry/gold. The jewelry is then stolen, and in some cases, they are also given various bank cards, etc.
In several cases, the victim realizes they are being scammed and contacts the police. In some cases, the police's special task force then waits for the scammer - a completely different scenario than the scammer had hoped for.
