Two men were apprehended during the night on Wednesday on suspicion of attempted gross fraud.
Several times during the evening, men had called an 85-year-old woman and said they would come to her home and help her lock a bank card.
The woman sensed trouble and called a friend who helped her contact the police. We went to the woman's home and after a time of surveillance, we were able to arrest the men outside the woman's residence.
The men, who are in their 20s and 30s, are being held and suspected of attempted gross fraud.
From the police side, we urge the elderly who are victims of fraud or attempted fraud to always file a police report. Get help from relatives or friends. You are not alone in being affected by people with malicious intent. The police take these crimes seriously and all information is valuable in order to catch those who want to deceive the elderly out of money and valuables.
The sooner you sound the alarm – the greater the chance that we can prevent crimes and arrest perpetrators.
