Many fraud attempts are being reported - protect yourself and your loved ones
A wave of fraud against the elderly has hit several parts of the country at the beginning of 2025.
In Jönköping, 45 cases were registered between January 1 and 10, 2025.
The modus operandi can vary, but often involves the fraudster sending an SMS or calling and offering to help report a fraud to an insurance company. In connection with this, the fraudster often wants to get pictures of valuable items found in the home, and it is common for the fraudster to want to visit the victim to take away jewelry and valuable items.
The police's advice is to always check who is calling, sending an SMS, or knocking on the door. If you're the slightest unsure – call and check via the company's or organization's central switchboard.
Never leave out bank cards, codes, or bank IDs.
Do not open the door for strangers.
Protect your loved ones – tell them about the fraudsters' methods and how to protect themselves.
In the midst of a crime: Call 112. If the police can quickly be on the scene, the chances of being able to prosecute the perpetrator increase.
