The past day has seen the police receive several reports of scams where individuals born in the 1960s living in Kalix are victims. They are said to have received an SMS from "Marginalen bank" regarding an unpaid invoice. In the SMS, there is a phone number that the victim is asked to call if they have any questions about the invoice. When the victim contacts the phone number, they are said to have been misled into using BankID or performing financial transactions.

So far, the police have received six reports over the past day. They concern both attempted scams and completed scams.

Tips to prevent scams
Hang up the phone if an unknown person calls.
Never leave out a code or bank card to an unknown person.
Do not log in with BankID if an unknown person encourages you to do so.
Do not click on any links in emails or SMS.
Do not call unknown numbers that you received via an SMS.
If you are unsure if the information is correct, contact the company through their official contact channels.

Report a crime
If you suspect that you have been a victim of telephone scams, you should make a police report and contact your bank. You can make a police report by calling the police's contact center on the phone number 114 14, visiting a police station, or through our e-service.
