Under the afternoon, the police received information from a woman in Eskilstuna municipality who claims to have lost around 200,000 kronor in connection with a suspected fraud.

She claims to have received an SMS on her mobile phone and, as a result, called the number the message came from. The person on the other end claimed to represent a loan company. After the call, the woman somehow lost the money. The police have questioned the woman and subsequently filed a report on fraud.

Another woman in the area also contacted the police during the day after being targeted by a similar attempt last week.

The police urge caution when dealing with unknown actors over the phone. Do not answer the phone if you do not know who it is, and do not call back an unknown number that sent a suspicious message you do not recognize. Also, never give out sensitive codes or identify yourself with a bank ID over the phone. Banks and other serious actors would never ask you to do so. Do not trust the person calling and hang up the phone if you are not absolutely sure who you are talking to.

If you or someone in your vicinity has been targeted, or if you think someone is trying to scam you out of money, contact the police immediately. It is also important to share this information with elderly people in your vicinity, so that you can prevent this type of crime.
