In connection with the new year being rung in, we would like to ask you to consider the following.
You must be 18 years old to buy, possess, and use fireworks. Fireworks found by the police among people under 18 years old are seized and destroyed. Respect the age limit. As an adult, you have a responsibility for the goods you buy and are intended to be used. If you give them to a minor, you risk their health and commit a crime. The police receive many calls in this context concerning young people. We urge parents to talk to their children about what applies and what consequences it may have.
We also want to emphasize that you should be sober when handling fireworks. If intoxicated people are found with fireworks, the fireworks may be confiscated.
Many municipalities have local regulations regarding when and where fireworks can be fired. Special regulations may apply for New Year's Eve. Different municipalities may have different rules for where fireworks can be fired. The responsibility to find out what applies lies with the person who wants to use fireworks. That is why it is important that you check with your municipality about what applies where you want to be.
The police region West wishes everyone a good end and a good new year.
