A carpenter who was working on digging out a foundation rang the police after finding bone fragments in the ground.

A police patrol went to the scene to photograph the bones. The pictures were sent to a forensic technician with expertise in osteology (the scientific study of bones) who could make the assessment that it was not human bones.

The police patrol left the scene and the carpenter could continue digging.
