There have been several residential burglaries in the local police area of Hallsberg in recent times. This concerns burglaries in primarily Askersund and Laxå.

Several investigative measures have been and will be taken. This includes tracking, crime scene investigations and other information collection.

However, we also want to address the general public and urge extra vigilance.

Contact the police on 114 14 if you have made observations concerning things that stand out or that can be linked to criminal activity. If a crime is committed in real-time, you should always call 112.

Tips on how you can protect yourself against residential burglaries and make it harder for the thief:

• Strengthen the burglary protection with approved locks and break protection on windows and doors.

• Lock windows and doors even if you are away during the day and do not leave windows open for ventilation.

• Install a burglary alarm with camera and siren.

• Connect outdoor lighting to a timer and motion detectors.

• Do not leave valuable items in plain sight.

• Write down detailed information about the valuable items you have.

• Take photos of your valuable items.

• Store the documentation safely.

Remember that:

• think like a thief to protect yourself against residential burglaries. Thieves usually enter through windows or balcony and patio doors.

• the risk of residential burglaries is higher in secluded gardens.

• store garden tools and other tools indoors so that the thief cannot use them to enter the residence.

• avoid posting entries on social media about being away.

• valuable sports equipment, bicycles, tools, craft machines and more are often stored in the garage and outdoor storage. These areas should also have proper burglary protection.
