Scammers tricked a woman out of money.
The police has been alerted about a telephone scam, also known as vishing, in a small town outside of Norrköping. Scammers have called a woman in her 70s and managed to convince her to transfer significant amounts to different numbers. The investigation will show the exact amount, but it is likely to be a six-digit amount.
This type of scam is unfortunately very common, and the police really want to warn about the proposed scammers. The approach is often similar, scammers start by being aggressive and frightening the person they call to get a psychological advantage. Then they change their approach and become helpful and manipulative to gain trust and thus be able to convince the victim to transfer money in different ways, transfer money via Swish or leave out codes.
The police's appeal to those who are called by unknown people asking questions is clear: Hang up the phone!
If you or someone you know has been targeted, call the police even if the scam has not been completed. This type of crime is prioritized, and every case can have information that contributes to the large investigation puzzle.
