Police were called to a residence in Skillingaryd where a brazen thief entered through the front door when an elderly couple was home and on the back side. The thief was discovered when one of the residents went in to get something and took flight on foot. Unfortunately, he had time to search the house and took valuable items, estimated to be worth six-figure amounts.

It appears that the thief had a accomplice with a car, and they have both left together. Police have been on the scene for questioning and crime scene investigation, and have also searched for suspected perpetrators. At present, no one has been arrested in the case, which is classified as burglary.

Police have previously warned about this brazen approach, but it's worth repeating: do not invite the thief into your home!

During the summer, there have been a number of thefts with similar methods in several of the country's police regions. Just because you are home does not mean you should not lock your front door.

Thieves are quick and thoughtless. If valuable items are also located in the "usual" places, it takes thieves a moment to take what they want and disappear without anyone even noticing they were in the house. Store your valuable items in a safe place, in a safe deposit box, or put them in a place where the thief does not look first!

If you have elderly relatives, talk to them about this and help them understand the gravity of the situation. No home insurance can cover the loss of items with high sentimental value, such as inherited jewelry or wedding rings, for example.

Also, make sure to photograph your valuable items. If the unfortunate event occurs and you are robbed, it greatly simplifies the police investigators' work if we find a thief's hiding place. Even here, relatives can be of great help!
