Earlier this winter, Värmland has been particularly hard hit by thefts of more expensive vehicles, including Toyota Rav 4, Land Rover, Dodge RAM, and others. The method used has been to copy the signals between the vehicle and the ignition keys electronically, thereby capturing the "start keys". The crimes are preceded by special planning and involve special knowledge of current vehicle types. The thefts are carried out quickly and with great precision. The stolen vehicles are likely to be taken abroad immediately after the theft.

We now see that this modus operandi appears to be establishing itself in Dalarna, and therefore owners of premium vehicles are advised to be more vigilant. The perpetrators map out the movement patterns and habits of owners of premium vehicles before the thefts take place. Be aware of what can be perceived as reconnaissance around parked vehicles of this type.

As a car owner, you can also make it more difficult for thieves by not storing the ignition keys immediately inside the outer door of the apartment. Store the keys best separated, preferably in a metal box, further inside the apartment. Physical obstacles, such as "boxing" with the help of another vehicle, are also a good method.
