During Friday, a large number of calls/complaints were received by the police's contact center regarding received SMS that appear to be from the police. In the messages, the recipient is urged to pay traffic fines to the Police Authority via a linked link. The purpose is for the recipient to click on the link to make a payment. These SMS are false.

The estimated number of people who received these false police SMS is believed to be high. In order to prevent the scams from resulting in completed crimes, we therefore continue to warn about these SMS with the message not to click on the link.
