Mountain Rescue sets up skiers who have driven into waterways.
Under Good Friday morning, the police in Region North have received two cases involving individuals who have become stuck with snowmobiles in a mountain environment. In both cases, the snowmobile equipment has ended up in the water, the affected individuals have become wet and eventually found themselves in distress when they were unable to free their snowmobiles and continue on their way from the location. More similar cases have been reported to the police during Easter week.
In light of this, the police would like to urge caution. The early spring and low snow cover in many areas make snowmobiles very unpredictable, especially in waterways. If you end up in the water and become wet and unable to get out, the risk is great that you will eventually find yourself in distress.
The on-duty commanding officer has initiated rescue services in accordance with the Act on Protection against Accidents and called out mountain rescue teams to assist the affected individuals. One case is in Vojmådalen, Vilhelmina municipality, and the other is in Vuoggatjålme, Arjeplogs municipality.
