Mountain Rescue sets out skid drivers who have driven into waterways.
Under Good Friday morning, the police in Region North have received two reports regarding individuals who have become stuck with snowmobiles in a mountain environment. In both cases, the snowmobile equipment has ended up in the water, the affected individuals have become wet and eventually found themselves in distress when they were unable to free their snowmobiles and continue on from the location. Similar reports have been received by the police during Easter week.
Given this, the police would like to urge caution. The early spring and low snow cover in many places make snowmobiles very unpredictable, especially on waterways. If you end up in the water and become wet and unable to get out, the risk is great that you will eventually find yourself in distress.
The on-duty commanding officer has initiated rescue services in accordance with the Act on Protection against Accidents and called out mountain rescue teams to assist the affected individuals. One in Vojmådalen, Vilhelmina municipality, and the other in Vuoggatjålme, Arjeplogs municipality.
