Impostors in Norrköping claim to be from the police.
Hang up the phone! – A clear warning from authorities, banks, and other organizations working to combat fraud crimes.
A 90-year-old woman in Norrköping has followed the advice – and prevented a potential crime.
The woman was contacted on Wednesday by someone claiming to be from the Police Authority. The woman was asked to describe the gold jewelry she owns, so that the person on the phone could insure it.
The woman senses something is off and hangs up the phone.
On Wednesday, several cases of fraud crimes with the same modus operandi have come to the police's knowledge.
The Police Authority will never call you and ask you to describe your valuables, and wants to warn the public to be vigilant about incoming phone calls.
If you receive a call from someone who wants to know what valuables you have or codes for credit cards and bank ID, think the following:
Hang up the phone. If you're unsure who's calling, end the call.
Don't let unknown people into your home.
Never log in with bank-id if someone calls and asks you to. Don't give out codes from bank cards or credit cards either.
Never give over identification, bank cards, or your code to anyone else.
Call the police.
In the event of an ongoing crime, call 112.
If the crime is not ongoing, call 114 14.
