The police are contacted regarding a suspected fraud attempt.
An older man in Härnösand received an SMS yesterday saying that a cleaning company would come today. This morning, a person who wants to come in and clean rings the man's doorbell. The man is said to have not booked any cleaning and refuses to let the person in.
The police have been on the scene at the man's and a report will be filed regarding an attempted fraud.
How you can protect yourself
If you are unexpectedly contacted via phone call, SMS, or email, stop, don't act, hang up. Then ask someone you trust – a neighbor, a friend, a family member for advice.
Do not identify yourself with bank-ID or give out your codes when someone else contacts you.
Do not let unknown people in until you have been able to verify that the people are who they claim to be. Ask for identification and try to verify it. Often there are phone numbers for verification.
Don't be afraid to appear suspicious or unpleasant, dare to end the conversation.
If you are a victim of fraud, contact the police and if it's ongoing, call 112, otherwise call 114 14.
