An elderly woman calls a phone number she received by text message and is targeted in an attempted scam.
A text message about a fictitious purchase on credit leads a woman in her 80s to call the phone number provided in the text message.
She then speaks to various fraudsters pretending to work for a bank and an insurance company. They try to pressure and frighten the woman by talking about the risk of robbery and try to find out whether she has any gold at home.
The woman appears to have become suspicious, as she ended the call and called 112 instead.
The fraud was not completed, and the police filed a report of attempted fraud.
Never call phone numbers provided in unexpected text messages!
Not even if the text message appears to come from a company or public authority you know.
If you want to contact a company or public authority, use established contact channels that you already have or find yourself, for example on their websites.
