After several reports of suspected counterfeit banknotes in a short period, the Police in Region West are urging increased caution when handling cash.
It is about 200-kronor bills that are suspected to be forged and which have been discovered and reported by entrepreneurs who received them as payment. During the past week, at least four reports have been received by the West Police Region, two from Gothenburg and two from Halmstad. Since the bills can be mistaken for genuine ones, there may be an underreported number.
Similar forgeries have also been found in the South Police Region in recent times. The cases in the West Region are currently being investigated as fraud and illegal handling of false money.
You can check the authenticity of a bill like this:
• The paper quality and print of the bill
• The water mark, security thread and other security details
• That the bill does not deviate in color or structure
Advice to, for example, shop staff in case of suspicion of a false bill:
• Do not accept the bill
• Contact immediately the responsible person/department head
• Follow the store's procedures for suspected false bills and contact the police.
