After several reports of suspected counterfeit banknotes in a short period, the Police in Region West are urging increased caution when handling cash.
The suspected counterfeits are 200-kronor bills that have been discovered and reported by business owners who received them as payment. During the past week, at least four reports have been submitted to the West Police Region, two from Gothenburg and two from Halmstad. Since the bills can be mistaken for genuine ones, there may be an underreported number.
Similar counterfeits have also been found in the South Police Region in recent times. The cases in the West Region are currently being investigated as fraud and unauthorized handling of counterfeit money.
You can check the authenticity of a bill like this:
• The paper quality and print of the bill
• The watermarks, security thread, and other security details
• That the bill does not deviate in color or structure
Advice for, for example, shop staff in the event of a suspected counterfeit bill:
• Do not accept the bill
• Immediately contact the responsible person or supervisor
• Follow the store's procedures for suspected counterfeit bills and contact the police.
