Currently, fake SMS are flourishing that appear to be a VM (World Championship) alert from SOS Alarm.
The police are aware that several places have been affected, mainly in the police area of Älvsborg, and take the phenomenon seriously. There is ongoing investigative work regarding this, including false alarms. Further categorizations may be added.
Important message to the public, VMA, is part of Sweden's warning system to warn and inform the public in case of danger. SOS Alarm transmits VMA, on behalf of the government and in accordance with Swedish law, in cooperation with the broadcasting management of Sveriges Radio. The agency for civil protection and emergency planning, MSB, is responsible for the VMA system.
It is important that the public can rely on information that is disseminated via VMA. A VMA is never transmitted solely via SMS. In connection with the situation, the police urge the public to verify any SMS with information on krisinformation.se or Sveriges Radio.
