The past few days have affected people in Umeå, Boden, Överkalix, and Jokkmokk. Some cases have stopped at attempts at fraud, but in a few cases it's about completed transactions of money and fraud crimes.

The methods vary somewhat. People who receive or have received an SMS about a granted loan application (and who have not made any loan application) should be vigilant. Never call the number in the SMS, but call instead via the bank's ordinary contact channels. Furthermore, SMS's occur that start with "Hej pappa" or "Hej mamma" where someone poses as a son or daughter who is in need of money to, for example, buy a new phone or computer.

The crimes are directed at elderly people.

If you are contacted and are unsure of the sender, contact the company or person in some other way than via the SMS that was sent. Then you can ensure that the message is genuine or if it's about fraud attempts.
