The seven bank employees were held captive for a day before being deported. What remained was their cargo: 35 million euros in cash and nine kilograms of gold.
According to Kyiv, it was a normal transfer of state assets. Hungary described it as financing the “Ukrainian war mafia.”
Following the Hungarian power struggle, in which incoming Prime Minister Peter Magyar has shown a more pro-Ukrainian stance than incumbent Viktor Orbán, Hungary has agreed to an EU loan to Ukraine and Magyar has proposed a meeting with Zelenskyy.
