Ukraine's president Volodymyr Zelenskyj had a full day in the British capital for meetings with Prime Minister Keir Starmer, King Charles III and representatives of the so-called "Coalition of the willing".
Your security is our security, said Starmer and emphasized that the support from the countries for Ukraine was total.
He also said that the Russian president Vladimir Putin "is not interested in peace".
"Better late than never"
The meeting with several heads of state and government resulted in an agreement on the importance of sanctions against Russian gas and oil exports. Zelenskyj welcomed that the USA also stands behind the sanctions.
But the leaders were faced with the question from a reporter whether the efforts to stop Russian energy exports – which are estimated to have been worth around 250 billion euros to EU countries – will come too late.
Yes, it comes too late, replied Denmark's Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen.
President Zelenskyj then asked to speak:
Better late than never.
Frederiksen also said at a press conference after the meeting that she hoped for a decision before Christmas on making Russian frozen assets available to Ukraine in the form of loans.
However, no news was announced about American delivery of the long-range missile Tomahawk, on the contrary, NATO's Secretary General Mark Rutte, who also participated on site, stated that "it is up to the (military alliance's) member countries to decide".
Dutch energy support
The Netherlands' Prime Minister Dick Schoof promised increased energy support to Ukraine during the winter when Russian attacks are targeting energy and infrastructure.
Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson participated in the meeting via link:
"The focus during the meeting was of course on the prospects for peace negotiations, support for Ukraine and the need for increased pressure where it belongs – on Putin. But I also got the chance to tell about the message on Wednesday about a possible major export deal from Sweden to Ukraine with up to 100-150 Gripen", wrote the Prime Minister in a statement after the meeting.
