Zelenskyj was welcomed by Kristersson at the airport in Linköping and the two leaders hugged each other.
Zelenskyj will, among other things, discuss the defense cooperation between Sweden and Ukraine during the visit. He will also make a business visit to Saab in Linköping where the fighter aircraft Jas Gripen, which has been discussed for a long time within the framework of support to Ukraine, is manufactured.
We will discuss the conditions for major export deals, said Ulf Kristersson in the Riksdag's EU committee.
Before Zelenskyj's arrival in Sweden, he also visited Norway and Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.
Twelve-point plan
Zelenskyj's visit takes place days after Ukraine and European countries have developed a twelve-point plan for peace, according to information to Bloomberg.
The plan proposes a ceasefire along the current front lines, the return of deported Ukrainian children and a prisoner exchange. Ukraine would receive security guarantees, reconstruction support and a fast track to EU membership, while sanctions against Russia would be gradually lifted. Frozen Russian assets would be repaid only if Moscow contributes to the reconstruction and occupied territory is not recognized as Russian but can be subject to negotiations.
The visits also take place the day after the President of the United States, Donald Trump, put the planned summit with Russia's President Vladimir Putin on ice.
I do not want to waste my time, so we will see what happens, said Trump on Tuesday.
”Significant risks”
Ulf Kristersson looks positively on the cancelled summit.
There were significant risks with such a meeting, he says.
The Prime Minister also tells the EU committee that the meeting with Zelenskyj will include a discussion ahead of the meeting in the European Council on Thursday.
Also present at the visit are Energy and Business Minister Ebba Busch (KD), Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard (M), Defense Minister Pål Jonson (M) and Education and Integration Minister Simona Mohamsson (L). A press conference will be held at 3 pm.
Six people were killed in a Russian attack on Ukraine during the night.
