The basic intention is to meet Zelenskyj in person before we have a meeting with the coalition that helps Ukraine in various ways tomorrow. To strengthen him before those talks and send a clear signal to the USA that we stand very firmly behind Ukraine, says Ulf Kristersson to TT.
On X Zelenskyj writes that "in just a few hours, it's the 'Ukraine and Nordic and Baltic countries' summit' in Denmark". According to Danish media, there was already a large security effort around Marienborg Castle outside Copenhagen, where the meeting is being held, from early morning.
Show support
Denmark's Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen emphasizes that the Nordic and Baltic countries are making significant contributions to Ukraine's fight against the Russian invasion.
"That's why I'm glad we can gather at Marienborg with Zelenskyj. Show our unequivocal support for Ukraine. Put further pressure on Russia", she says in a press release.
Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson arrived in the morning to participate in the negotiations. Finland's President Alexander Stubb will also attend, and has according to news agencies said that the meeting format is NB8 – an abbreviation for cooperation between Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, and Sweden.
Denmark is driving initiatives to jointly manufacture military equipment. On Wednesday, a forthcoming facility for producing Ukrainian rocket fuel in Vojens on Jutland will also be presented, writes the news agency Ritzau.
In Paris
"We are preparing major reinforcements for Ukraine", Zelenskyj writes, and adds that further planning meetings await after Copenhagen: "Tonight it will be in bilateral format in France".
Previously, France's President Emmanuel Macron has invited to a major summit in Paris on Thursday, and Zelenskyj is also expected to attend.
"I thank everyone who helps. Every Russian attack must be met with a clear response", he writes, after intense Russian attacks during the night.
Ulf Kristersson will participate digitally in Thursday's summit in France. His hope is that more countries "step forward".
There are quite a few countries that haven't done so. All countries must say what they can contribute in the air, on the ground, and so on, given that the USA is involved.
