Over 20,000 people were evacuated after three undetonated American bombs from World War II were found in central Cologne in Germany on Monday.

Twelve hours after the evacuation began on Wednesday, the bombs were detonated by bomb technicians at 7 pm. Two of the bombs weighed 1,000 kilos and the third 500 kilos.

The area up to one kilometer from the site of the discovery was evacuated, which included both residences and workplaces, such as hospitals, nursing homes, and hotels, warned the city of Cologne. In addition, both roads and train traffic were closed.

In 2017, another bomb was found in the German city of Frankfurt. Then 65,000 people were evacuated, the largest evacuation in Europe since World War II.
