"It is an unfortunate and bad decision by Sweden. The Peace Council will become an organization that does a lot of good," Witkoff tells Svenska Dagbladet and continues:
"Even if you don't agree with us on all issues, it's important that you encourage communication and sit at the table."
Deputy Prime Minister Ebba Busch (KD) responds:
– "Sweden decides for itself what we are part of, and we are a strong voice in the communities that already exist," Busch tells TT.
It was on Wednesday that Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (M) announced that it is not appropriate for Sweden to join "as the text stands right now."
Donald Trump has said he wants the council's charter to be signed in connection with the ongoing World Economic Forum in Davos. Some 60 invitations have been sent out - including to the Pope.
