Progress has been made in peace talks with the US and Russia, Ukraine's chief negotiator says. The talks ended after two hours.

Ukraine's chief negotiator Rustem Umyrov talked about progress after the Geneva talks ended on Wednesday, but he did not reveal any details.

"We are focused on working through the key regulations required to complete the process. This is complex work that requires coordination between all parties and sufficient time," he told reporters, AFP reported.

The second day of negotiations between Ukraine and Russia in Geneva ended after two hours, according to Russian envoy Vladimir Medinsky.

Unresolved issues

The negotiations were difficult but objective, President Vladimir Putin's advisor Medinsky said, according to Russian state media.

According to him, more talks are expected in the "near future."

"We see that some foundations have been laid, but at the moment the positions differ, because the negotiations have not been easy," Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy told reporters after the meeting.

Among the unresolved "sensitive issues" are the future of the occupied territories in eastern Ukraine, as well as the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, according to the president.

Very tense

Steve Witkoff, who represented the Trump administration at the talks, claimed progress earlier Wednesday morning.

“President Trump’s success in bringing both sides of this war together has led to significant progress,” he wrote on X.

A source close to the Russian delegation told AFP that Tuesday's talks lasted six hours and "were very tense."
