Gaza Faces Critical Shortage of Food and Medical Aid Amid Blockade

Condemnations of Israel's blockade of aid shipments to Gaza are now coming from WHO and the UN's aid organizations. They warn that an acute shortage of food and medical aid can cost human lives.

The import of humanitarian aid to Gaza has been blocked by Israel since March 2. The UN's food program (WFP) announces that it has run out of food in all warehouses in Gaza. The organization is one of the largest providers of food aid to Gaza.

"Today, WFP delivered its last remaining food supplies to kitchens for warm meals in the Gaza Strip. These kitchens are expected to run out of food in the coming days," the organization warns in a statement.

The World Health Organization (WHO) warns that medical warehouses in Gaza are running out due to Israel's blockade.

"The situation is the same with medical warehouses. They are running out. ...this aid blockade must end. Lives depend on it," writes WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus on X.

The UN's refugee agency for Palestinians, Unrwa, also condemns Israel's blockade.

"Nearly two months of blockade. Requests to bring in supplies remain unheard," writes Unrwa chief Philippe Lazzarini on X.

Earlier in the week, the UN's humanitarian coordination agency Ocha stated that the humanitarian situation in Gaza is likely at its worst level yet during the war.
