With Friday night's 4-0 home win over Wolverhampton Wanderers, West Ham moved past London rivals Tottenham in the table, rising from 18th to 17th place. West Ham now has 32 points from 32 games, and Tottenham has 30 points from 31 games.
Crisis-stricken Tottenham is thus in a Premier League position that would mean relegation to the second-tier Championship next season if it remained there after 38 rounds.
"Spurs" can reclaim 17th place in the table, where Spurs finished last season, on Sunday when new Italian coach Roberto De Zerbi makes his debut away at Sunderland.
