Six years after the first trial in New York, prosecutors and defense attorneys delivered their opening statements to a new jury on Tuesday.
The case concerns allegations by an actress who says Harvey Weinstein raped her in a hotel in 2013.
According to the prosecution, Weinstein, an influential figure in Hollywood, was used to getting his way and "did what he wanted, when he wanted and with whom he wanted."
Behind closed doors, power meant he took what he wanted from the victim in this case, White says.
Weinstein has consistently denied all allegations of abuse. According to defense attorney Jacob Kaplan, the case is instead about "consent, choice and remorse."
Kaplan reiterated Weinstein's previous defense, saying the actress accusing him of rape "represented a consensual encounter as a crime."
This is the third trial in this case. In the first trial in 2020, he was convicted of rape, but the verdict was overturned and the case was ordered retried because of errors.
At the second trial last year, the jury deadlocked on the rape charge and the judge ordered a new trial.
Weinstein, 74, was previously convicted of rape in a separate California case in 2022 and is serving a 16-year prison sentence, which he has appealed.
The current trial is expected to last about a month.
