This concerns rocket artillery of the M141 model, produced by Nammo's American subsidiary Nammo Defense Systems Inc, reports NRK.
Norwegian weapons industry is not allowed to sell weapons to Israel, but Nammo has several subsidiaries that follow other countries' laws – despite the parent company being partly owned by the Norwegian state. The USA has no ban on selling weapons to Israel.
"The weapons in question were manufactured in the USA and are subject to American law. Nammo sold them to the American army about ten to fifteen years ago", writes communications director Thorstein Korsvold in an email.
Nammo does not want to answer whether a so-called due diligence assessment, i.e. a mapping of the harm that the business can cause, was conducted prior to the sale.
Already in 2008-2010, it would have been easy to realize that these weapons could end up in Israel. They have no business being there, as long as it is documented that Israel commits extensive violations of international law in these conflicts, says Mads Harlem, international lawyer at Save the Children, to NRK.
Harlem points to, among other things, a UN report from 2009, which showed that there is strong evidence that Israel committed war crimes already during the Gaza War in 2008 and 2009.
