It did not go well for Washington in tonight's NHL round. Visiting Ottawa could quickly take the lead and from the second period the goal scoring exploded.
Washington's Alexander Ovetjkin, who celebrated his 1,500th NHL game, was responsible for just one of the team's meager 13 shots on goal – and thus remains at 899 goals in his NHL career.
Before and during the game, he still received the audience's cheers, as his long career was highlighted. Already in the 2005/2006 season, he played his first game in Washington, where he has now stayed for over 20 years, with the exception of the lockout season 2012/2013.
At a score of 5–0, Washington managed to reduce via Trevor Van Riemsdyk – and deprive Ottawa's Swedish star goalkeeper Linus Ullmark of a shutout.
Ullmark also received a two-minute penalty during the game. In the second period, he left his goal to participate in a brawl on the other side of the ice.
