The Dow Jones industrial average fell 1 percent on Thursday, the broad S&P 500 index fell 1.7 percent, and the tech-heavy Nasdaq composite index fell 2.4 percent.
The price of oil has been volatile, as has everything else since the U.S. and Israel's war against Iran began on February 28.
North Sea oil was trading at $108 per barrel after rising 5.5 percent during the day. And in keeping with the pattern, the world's stock markets fell.
Shares of Facebook owner Meta and Google owner Alphabet fell the day after they were convicted by a jury for failing to clearly warn that their services could be addictive.
Meta, which also lost a lawsuit on Tuesday, fell 7.9 percent, and Alphabet fell 3.4 percent.
