After a few minutes of trading on Wednesday, the Dow Jones industrial average was up 0.2 percent, the broad S&P 500 index was up 0.4 percent and the tech-heavy Nasdaq composite index was up 0.2 percent.
Ahead of the stock market opening, the Finance Ministry announced that bond buybacks with long maturities of 10-30 years will be doubled. According to the ministry, the increased buybacks, which will begin on September 9, will contribute to market liquidity.
Long-term US market interest rates are falling after the announcement.
Wall Street fell on both Monday and Tuesday.
