Volvo Cars' sales fell to 70,737 cars in March this year, a decrease of 10 percent compared to the same month last year.

The number of fully electric cars in March sales remained at 13,414 cars, which accounts for 19 percent of total sales.

During the first quarter of the year, Volvo Cars' sales were 172,219 cars, a decrease of 6 percent compared to the same period last year.

The Volvo Cars share fell by more than 1 percent after the report – which means that the increase so far this year has shrunk to around 8 percent.

In Europe, sales fell in March by 9 percent to 36,093 cars, while the decline in the USA was 8 percent to 14,052 cars. Sales in China decreased even more, down by 22 percent to 10,867 cars.

The sales report for March comes after Volvo Cars fired CEO Jim Rowan and recruited former CEO Håkan Samuelsson as a successor during a two-year transition period before a "long-term successor" is appointed.
