The unrest broke out on Monday after a peaceful demonstration in support of a girl who is believed to have been subjected to an attempted rape. Two teenage boys with a foreign background have been arrested.

The violence was obviously racially motivated and directed against our ethnic minority group and the police, said Deputy Police Chief Ryan Henderson at a press conference on Tuesday.

Masked individuals left Monday's calm manifestation and began building barricades and vandalizing properties. 15 police officers were injured in the subsequent clashes. A 29-year-old man was arrested suspected of, among other things, violent rioting and violent resistance.

Henderson calls the unrest of the past two days "racist violence" and says that "all attempts to justify or explain it as something else are inappropriate".
