The two newcomers to Allsvenskan met in a sunny Västerås. It was Gais who broke the deadlock in the first half - with a really stylish goal. Gustav Lundgren got the ball on the edge, dribbled past and slammed it into the net 1-0.
Before the half was over, Axel Henriksson had time to head in a free kick to 2-0 and Lundgren played Alexander Ahl Holmström through on the flank, who tapped in 3-0.
We're effective, we adjust well and take our chances. So 3-0 is definitely acceptable, said Lundgren to Max during the break.
Picked up in the second
But Västerås would make a match of it in the second half.
Abdelrahman Boudah reduced the deficit with a penalty in the 57th minute and with five minutes left of regular time, Viktor Granath headed in another reduction.
In stoppage time, Västerås thought they had equalized. Boudah headed in 3-3 but the referee disallowed the goal for a push in the penalty area.
Boudah was not satisfied with the decision afterwards.
It's completely crazy that he dares to blow a free kick there, he says to Max.
"We don't deserve to win"
He had a hard time being happy about the team, despite the loss, still playing up in the second half.
Of course it's strong to come back in the second half. But they led 3-0. All teams automatically back off when they're leading like that. It's strong that we come back in the second half, but we play really, really badly in the first half. We don't deserve to win when we play like that, says Boudah.
The loss means that Västerås is still below the relegation line.
